How to Add Jane Austen-Inspired Decor to Your Home
6 June, 2017
If you love Jane Austen half as much as I do, you’ve probably tried to figure out ways to incorporate Austen-inspired decor into your home. Honestly, I just love Jane Austen so much that I want there to be small reminders of her stories around my home. But there’s a catch – I don’t want those reminders to be so feminine or girly that they drive my poor husband crazy!
If you’re anything like me, you probably struggled with this at first, too. In fact, I got so frustrated at finding a balance that I nearly gave up. However, over the course of the last year, I’ve figured out how to do it subtly and with taste.
Below are just a few ideas for adding Jane Austen-inspired decor to your home. These have worked wonderfully for me – so much so that my husband probably has no idea they were inspired by Jane Austen (that is, until he reads this)!
Teapots & Tea Cups
What screams “Jane Austen” more than tea time? Nothing, I tell you. Nothing! That’s why I have a few teapots and tea cups on display around my home. Sometimes I keep them in the kitchen, and sometimes I let them sit on a bookshelf or the coffee table. Either way, they constantly remind me of my favorite Austen moments.
Printables, Printables, Printables
I may be biased toward printables because I sell them in my Etsy shop, but printables are the easiest and cheapest way to add quotes from your favorite novels to your home. At Simply & Ardently, I have quotes from several Jane Austen books and their film adaptations.
Books Are Decorations, Too
Why not decorate with your favorite copy of Pride & Prejudice or that gorgeous edition of Sense & Sensibility? I love grabbing a few of my favorite Austen novels (or other novels) and placing them on my coffee table tray with a candle and a fake plant. In my opinion, there’s nothing lovelier.
Water Pitchers (With or Without Flowers)
How many times have you seen water pitchers and/or flowers in your favorite Jane Austen film adaptations? Lucky for us, pitchers are very popular today in home decor. As a plus, they look excellent when filled with fresh or dried flowers.
Lanterns & Candles
What could be more beautiful than lanterns and candles? Even though I live in the 21st Century and have electricity, I love to light up a room with candles and/or lanterns. It’s so warm, rustic and romantic.
